A tight-knit community have rallied behind the family of Hannah McGuire, a 23-year-old teacher who was allegedly murdered by her estranged partner. Hannah's parents have made the heart-wrenching decision to reopen their family-run pub, the National Hotel in the town of Clunes, north of Ballarat, in the days after Hannah's death. As the hotel reopened, locals came together to lay flowers, buy drinks and share memories. “It’s the saddest thing, I can’t believe it,” one patron told <a href="https://7news.com.au/news/pub-run-by-family-of-hannah-mcguire-allegedly-murdered-by-ex-partner-reopens-in-clunes-north-of-ballarat--c-14266127" target="_blank" rel="noopener">7News</a>. “To the young girl, we gave her all the best." In the wake of Hannah's death, the women of Ballarat are set to join together for an emotional gathering to demand an end to violence against women. The Ballarat region's Samantha Murphy, Rebecca Young and Hannah McGuire have all allegedly died at the hands of men since the beginning of February. A rally will begin at Ballarat train station on Friday before gathering at Camp Street, family members of the victims, community leaders and family violence specialists will address the gathering. Organiser Sissy Austin, who was herself savagely attacked while on a run in 2023, said the issue was a national crisis. "Us Ballarat women, we're coming together to stand in solidarity, to feel less alone and to show the country that we're united," Ms Austin told AAP. "We're here to fight for our rights to live safely in our community for generations to come. "The Ballarat community aren't going to succumb to the violence that has been perpetrated in our town." Ms Austin said the three killings in a little over two months had stunned the community. "Women are living on eggshells," she said. "The most immediate thing that we need to do, particularly as women, is to unite and show men who choose to use violence in our community that we stand against it," she added. "Enough is enough." "You were our whole damn sky": Tributes flow after alleged murder of young teacher

The family of a young teacher from Victoria are in mourning after the body of 23-year-old was found in a burnt-out car just hours after she was reported missing. Hannah McGuire was found near State Forest Rd in Scarsdale, an area near Ballarat surrounded by bushland, on Friday after her family had reported her missing just before. On Sunday, two young men were arrested over her death, and on Monday, a 21-year-old was charged with one count of murder. The young man is believed to be Hannah's ex-boyfriend, who had been living with Ms McGuire for about a year before their recent separation. Police will allege the man drove her body to a remote national park and set the car on fire, before posting a loving tribute on social media and telling her friends she had taken her own life. The man will appear in Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. As news of Hannah's untimely death broke, her parents shared a heart-wrenching tribute to their daughter on Facebook. Her parents run the National Hotel in the regional town of Clunes, and shared their tribute on their business Facebook page to inform patrons that the pub will remain closed until Wednesday. Eddie McGuire's new hosting role has been revealed, after it was announced that Millionaire Hot Seat will go on hiatus at the end of the year. After 15 seasons on the air, the popular quiz show was axed earlier in August, with the last episode set to air in December. Now, Eddie McGuire has his sights set on a new hosting role with the comeback of The Footy Show. To celebrate the show's 30th anniversary, a special episode is set to air ahead of the AFL grand final in September. According to reports from the Herald Sun, the special episode will feature some of the show's signature highlights and performances. Other veteran hosts such as Sam Newman have also been approached to take part in the episode. The first Footy Show Grand Final Spectacular aired in 1993, before the midweek Footy Show was launched in 1994. Fans were left shocked when it was announced that Millionaire Hot Seat had been axed earlier this month, with Eddie announcing the news and sharing the impact the show has had. "It's with great pride and joy and also sadness that I announce this morning Millionaire Hot Seat will go into hiatus at the end of January next year," Eddie said on 3AW this month. On an episode of The Political Party podcast, the British icon, 61, said, “I’m gonna be Suzy Eddie Izzard. “I’ll put Suzy there and then Eddie and then people can choose what they want and no one can go wrong,” The Sun reported. She added, “I’ve wanted to be S-U-Z-Y since I was 10. “That’s how I’m gonna roll so people can choose what they want. They can’t make a mistake; they can’t go wrong.” In December 2020, the British comedian and former political candidate was dubbed a “trailblazer” by fans when she first asked to use the pronouns “she” and “her” during the filming of the UK TV show, Portrait Artist Of The Year, revealing she was “gender fluid”. "Absolute disgrace": Sam Newman fumes at Eddie McGuire's exit

Controversial media personality Sam Newman has claimed the way Eddie McGuire has been treated is an "absolute disgrace" after the Collingwood president handed in his resignation on Tuesday afternoon. McGuire faced copious amounts of criticism after his response to a damning report that accused Collingwood of fostering "systemic racism", which ultimately forced him to step down immediately rather than at the end of the season as planned. The 56-year-old was on the verge of tears as he fronted a press conference to announce his resignation. “I tried my best and I don’t always get it right, but I don’t stop trying,” McGuire said. “Today, effective immediately, I step down from the presidency of the Collingwood Football Club. “From the moment I became the president of the Collingwood Football Club on my 34th birthday back in 1998, my sole motivation was to heal, unite, inspire and drive a new social conscience, not just into this club, but sport and the community in general and build an organisation that would be a place for opportunity for all people.” Newman was a longtime panellist on The AFL Footy Show alongside McGuire and the former Geelong ruckman delivered a scathing response to his comrade’s departure. “It is an absolute disgrace what is happening to Eddie McGuire,” Newman told FIVEaa Adelaide on Tuesday. “Eddie McGuire is a great person, a great member of our community here in Melbourne, and in fact, he’s a great Australian. “He might have erred like everyone might have erred, but he’s tried his heart out to rectify what has gone on at that club. “It is completely unfair what they’re doing to him, and they should be ashamed of themselves. “Why would you single him out? Collingwood president Eddie McGuire and former AFL star Luke Darcy have opened up about their exit from Triple M’s Hot Breakfast show. The pair both made headlines across the nation after it was revealed they were leaving the popular breakfast radio program. McGuire was forced to deny rumours that he and Darcy had been sacked. He instead announced that his family had been behind his decision to walk away from Triple M after 11 years. Both McGuire and Darcy both had their own personal tragedies that pushed them to step down. McGuire's mum Bridie died just two days after Darcy sadly lost his father - former VFL football player, David. “The self-reflection and losing someone close to you … you re-evaluate things that are important and, for me, it always comes back to family,” Darcy said. “It had a massive impact on me, and a part of my decision making (to leave breakfast radio) as well. “We need to work and pursue great things like the Hot Breakfast to look after our families, but at the same time, you don’t want to miss the point of life. I’m massive on that life balance part. “This year, we’ve had the chance to stop, reflect and look at our situations.” McGuire said his mother's passing helped him understand Darcy's situation. He went on to say his own commitment to his family made the decision to quit easier to make. “Darce’s father was such a great friend of the show, and so well loved. My mum passed two days later, but we knew it was imminent. My view is, If you don’t learn from this year, you won’t learn from much.” McGuire got the opportunity to spend quality time inside the AFL's Gold Coast hub with his son Joe shortly after he lost his mum. “I spent a lot of time with my son Joe, and spent no time with my son Xander and my wife Carla who were back in Melbourne. You think, ‘Hang on, these are the things that matter,'" McGuire said. “We came to work every day for our family. “We don’t regret that we weren’t there to drive them to school. That would be great in a perfect world where money falls off a tree. The Collingwood president revealed he’d always promised his family he would quit breakfast radio once his sons had both finished school. “Those closest to me have always known that I continued with breakfast radio while my boys were at school and now my youngest has finished it’s time too for me to finish up a wonderful 11 year run with a 4 am alarm,” McGuire said last week. The Triple M Hot Breakfast has been losing audience share as of late. The show is down 0.9 points to 5.8% in recent ratings but McGuire denies it is due to him and co-host Darcy's departure. “They (Triple M) were keen to look at planning for the next five years, and we thought, ‘This is a good way to finish,'" McGuire told the Herald Sun. “But, in my mind, it was probably since June I’ve known it would be the last year.”

Eddie Van Halen dies from throat cancer

Eddie Van Halen, legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, has died at the age of 65 from throat cancer. He lost his battle with the illness on Tuesday at St John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. His wife of 11 years, Janie, was by his side as well as his brother and Van Halen drummer Alex and his son Wolfgang. Doctors discovered that his throat cancer had moved to his brain and other organs in the last week. In the last five years, he had been travelling between the US and Germany for radiation treatment. Van Halen was formed by brothers Eddie and Alex in 1972 and quickly shot to fame by the early 1980s, with their album 1984 going five-times platinum. Eddie also performed the legendary guitar solo in Michael Jackson's hit Beat It, though at the time did it uncredited and as a favour to producer Quincy Jones. “I did it as a favour”, Eddie later admitted. “I was a complete fool, according to the rest of the band, our manager and everyone else. “I was not used. I knew what I was doing – I don’t do something unless I want to do it.”

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has honoured his mother Bridie, who passed away on Monday night. Eddie McGuire threatens to sue Facebook over “erectile dysfunction” story

Eddie McGuire is threatening to sue Facebook over a fake news article that claimed the broadcaster was promoting a cure for erectile dysfunction. A story appeared on Facebook reporting McGuire had partnered with US talk show host Dr Phil to create a product called "TryVexan". "I've tried Viagra, I've tried Red Ginseng, I've tried Cialis. TryVexan blows them all away," McGuire is quoted as saying. The fake news story, which was published under a bogus version of men's magazine GQ's website, said the "natural remedy" contained monkey head mushrooms and horny goat weed. "I am so confident in the product Dr Phil and I have created that I am offering free samples to our viewers," the story claims McGuire said. But yesterday the Collingwood president said the story was "completely bogus". "Needless to say, I'm not CEO of that company nor have I imbibed any of their product or have known anything of it," McGuire told 9NEWS. "My legal advisers today tell me it's some company out of Panama via Los Angeles, and somehow it ends up on Facebook without any checking and suddenly it's out there for public consumption." <img width="473" height="378" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7817766/capture_473x378.jpg" alt="Capture (10)" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"/> McGuire said he believed Facebook had a "duty of care" to ensure content on its platform was truthful and accurate. "The last thing I want anybody to do is to think, because my image is involved in this, that this drug is safe," McGuire said. "I've got no idea whether this drug is safe or otherwise but certainly in my situation, I've got nothing to do with it and I recommend, given this is their modus operandi, to stay as far away from it as you possibly can."

Eddie McGuire opens up about his dramatic weight loss

Media personality Eddie McGuire has lost a dramatic 20kg in a matter of weeks by following a strict Chinese herb diet. The Collingwood president will showcase his transformation when he makes a return to the AFL Footy Show this Thursday. The 52-year-old followed the 101 Wellbeing Program by Dr Shuquan Liu, which was the same diet Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull used several years ago. In the first two weeks, Eddie followed the diet plan of replacing meals with three cups of herb tonic. He explained that he had let himself go throughout the past decade and he was left unimpressed with how he looked. “I have probably been the classic case of the person who has put on one and a half kilos a year for the past 10 years and suddenly you look out the window one day and you see a fat bloke looking back at you and you realise it is a mirror,” he said. Eddie claimed that he experienced no negative side effects whilst on the diet. “It has taken all the heat out of my body, I feel great, I did not feel tired at any stage, and did not actually even feel hungry, believe it or not.” He has continued to drop weight since finishing the diet and has now lost a total of 20kg, despite going on holidays where he says he “ate for Australia”. “The next stage for me is to get myself physically fit again and keep the discipline up and make sure I don’t plonk it (the weight) back on,” he said.
